Angel Inn opens guest rooms and wine cave

North Yorkshire's acclaimed 92-seat Angel Inn moved into the accommodation market last Friday (18 July) when it launched five luxurious guest rooms alongside a new wine cave.

The inn was set up 21 years ago at Hetton, near Skipton, by Denis Watkins, regarded as the godfather of what is now dubbed the gastropub.

He said: "We have, for years, been asked when we would be adding rooms - many of our guests travel some distance to dine with us and to enjoy a glass or two of wine, and now they can stay overnight."

The new, individually designed bedrooms are opposite the Angel Inn in a converted barn, which has been named the Angel Barn Lodgings. They include two studios, two suites and a "cottage". Prices start at £120 per night for bed and breakfast for two, and from £180 for special dinner, bed and breakfast breaks for two nights.

A new wine cave, which is also housed in the barn conversion, holds Watkins's personally sourced wines from small producers and estates, and has already attracted corporate bookings for wine tastings and tutorials.

The Angel Inn's many accolades and titles include Bib Gourmand and Wine by the Glass ratings from Michelin; AA Pub Seafood Restaurant of the Year for 2002; a Catey as Pub Operator of the Year in 1989; and Egon Ronay Pub of the Year in 1995.
