Portrait painter Barbara Ronay has unveiled her latest project to her subject, Gordon Ramsay. Ronay, wife of food critic and consultant Egon Ronay, used to paint still life until three years ago when she moved into portrait painting.
Before Ramsay, Ronay had painted three other chefs - Michel Roux, chef-patron of the Waterside Inn in Bray, Berkshire, his son Alain and the Waterside's former head chef, Mark Dodson, now executive chef at Cliveden in Berkshire. Egon said his wife had chosen Ramsay because "his face lends itself to a portrait - it has character and strong features".
Ramsay is expected to auction the painting to raise money for Tommy's, the charity that researches premature births, miscarriages and stillbirths. Ramsay said: "I thought about putting it up at home, but a picture of me would probably spook the kids before they went to sleep."
