Flood hit pubs and hotels forced to cancel bookings

Hotels, pubs and restaurants in the Cotswolds, Midlands and South-West face a night without fresh water supplies and are having to cancel reservations after heavy flooding continues to wreak havoc.

Both the Severn and the Thames have breached their banks and with the threat of more rain up to 350,000 people in Gloucestershire will be left without running water.

A spokeswoman for the Hotel De La Bere in Southam, Cheltenham, said: “We have not been flooded but the roads leading to the hotel have. We have no water and we do not know when the water will come back on.”

She added that the hotel had to cancel reservations because of the inaccessibility and lack of basic utilities: “The staff have been really good in dealing with the after effects,” she added.

Kate Hempsall, customer marketing manager at Charles Wells Pub Company, said the operator had four of its pubs flooded over the weekend.

“There is the initial effect in trade but we do not know how long the clean up operation and other remedial work will take to be done.”
