Local first-time pub buyer John McNeil has snapped up the family-friendly Square and Compass Inn in Llandyfan, Carmarthenshire.
The pub is believed to have been built 300 years ago as the village blacksmith’s cottage but it has served as licensed premises since 1840.
The Square and Compass is near Ammanford (known as the gateway to Carmarthenshire) and backs onto the Brecon Beacon National Parkland.
It has built up a reputation for its child-friendly atmosphere, its home-cooked foods and its real ales, with trade split equally between drink and food.
The property incorporates a lounge bar with a games area, a 40-seat restaurant, a beer garden with a children’s play area, both private and trade patio areas, and a car park.
There is also two-bedroom owners’ accommodation.
The Bristol office of Christie + Co sold the freehold off a guide price of £295,000 on behalf of Cerith Jones and his wife.
