Staff cook at Chester Grosvenor celebrated for 30 years' service

Maria Pereira, who has served almost a million meals to guests and staff during a 30-year career at the five-star Chester Grosvenor and Spa, has been rewarded with a Champagne reception.

When she joined the hotel in 1980, Pereira worked in the main hotel kitchen, preparing breakfast and lunch for guests, but after 10 years she was given the responsibility of running the kitchen for the staff dining room.

"I never though when I saw the job advertised that I would still be here 30 years on," she said. "I know every member of staff in the hotel and like making sure they have a good meal when they are at work.

"The chefs have been very kind to me. I've worked here so long I've watched executive chef Simon Radley grow up."

Managing director of the Chester Grosvenor, Jonathan Slater, said that Maria, who is a mum of two and grandmother of five, has "the most important job in the hotel because she keeps staff fed and happy."
