Jamie Oliver has been named chef of the decade by Men’s Health magazine.
The chef’s efforts to train disadvantaged youngsters in his own restaurants, his vigorous campaign to improve school meals, and his campaigning for good food brought about his recognition in the magazine’s Top 10 Men of the Decade list.
“These are people of real substance and solid achievement rather than temporary fame,” said editor Morgan Rees. “The people on our list have used their talents to change the world around them, rather than just to draw attention to themselves."
“We admire Jamie’s activities more than his celebrity,” said associate editor Mike Shallcross. “He is very genuine – what you see is what you get and, like Bob Geldof, he puts his money where his mouth is.”
Shallcross added that Oliver was regarded as a “healthy eating activist”.
“He is passionate about good food and he has shown that you can eat healthily and still enjoy delicious food,” he explained.
