Lussmanns restaurants gain two-star rating from the SRA

The Lussmanns Fish & Grill Restaurants group has been awarded a two-star rating by the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA).

The restaurants, in St Albans and Hertford, were assessed across 14 areas and awarded the two-star rating for their excellent credentials in sourcing, environment and society.

The award comes on the back of Lussmanns recently being given 8/10 by the SRA in a Times restaurant review.

George Clark, senior account manager at the SRA, said the two-star-rating reflected the restaurants' credentials in sustainable sourcing, healthy eating, staff

practices, community support and responsible marketing.

"Lussmanns is built on sustainable values, with a serious commitment to ethical practices and this rating reflects that. They are part of a growing movement among restaurants across the country to be meeting customer demand for greater sustainability," he said.

Owner Andrei Lussmann said he was delighted with the two-star rating: "Running restaurants with an environmental bias is a modern day discipline - we ignore it at our peril."

The SRA is set to launch its first national awards scheme next year, recognising restaurants across seven categories covering all aspects of sustainability.

All restaurants that have undertaken the SRA's star rating in 2011 will be considered for the awards.
