Birmingham is to represent the UK in a Europe-wide culinary network designed to promote top-end restaurants, regional produce and the development of educational skills in the hospitality sector.

Delice, the Good Food Cities of the World initiative is made up of 20 European cities including Barcelona, Milan and Lyon. It will include culinary exchange programmes as well as the development of young talent across its participating cities.

Birmingham will be the first city within the network to host a culinary exchange and will welcome four Michelin-starred chefs from the Toques Blanches Lyonnaise, France's leading chefs' organisation, from 2-5 March.

The visit will include dinners at Simpsons and Opus restaurants and will conclude with a dinner at the University College of Birmingham.

Andreas Antona, owner of Simpsons restaurant, is working closely with the chefs to co-ordinate the event and said he was thrilled about the project.

“It’s an honour to be working with French chefs of such standing and I’m extremely proud to have the opportunity to show them what we can do here in Birmingham,” he said.

“The standard of cuisine and expertise in this city is world-class and the Delice celebrations will enable us to really shout about it.”
