Shap Wells sold for close to £2.75m
The three-star, 98-bedroom Shap Wellshotel in Shap, Cumbria, has been sold for close to £2.75m. Former owners Geoff and Celia Metcalfe, who spent more than 40 years at the hotel with their son, David, are retiring. They have sold the property to Carnellian Hotels, which owns the Carlton Park Hotel in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. The Shap Wells Hotel is set in 30 acres and has banqueting rooms for up to 400 guests. The agent was Colliers Robert Barry.
Two couples buy Rowan Tree
The Rowan Tree Country Hotel, which overlooks Loch Alvie in Inverness-shire, has been sold for close to £525,000. The buyers are two couples - Richard and Anne Hardman and Steven and Monique Joy. The Joys will run the 12-bedroom hotel, which is reputedly one of the oldest inns in the area. Christie & Co was the agent.
Oxfordshire hotel sold for £2.2m
AJ Leisure Holdings, a new company hoping to break into the hotel, restaurant and pub markets, has bought the Wroxton House Hotel in Wroxton St Mary, Oxfordshire, for £2.2m. Lester Hotel Management Services, which owns two hotels in London and one in Reading, Berkshire, has sold the 32-bedroom property. The Wroxton House Hotel dates from the 17th century and was originally three houses. Christie & Co was the agent.
Melrose hoteliers scoop up another property
The Henderson family, owners of the three-star Burt's Hotel in Melrose, Roxburghshire, have bought another property in the town, the 11-bedroom Millar's Hotel. Graham and Anne Henderson's son, James, and his partner, Elaine, will manage the hotel, which was sold for well in excess of £425,000. The two-storey property has a 26-seat lounge bar, a 35-seat dining room and a 12-seat conservatory. There is also a function room with a capacity of up to 100, and two-bedroom owner's accommodation. Christie & Co was the agent.
Shah makes a Royal investment
The Royal Hotel in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, has been sold for its asking price of £420,000, through agent Christie & Co. Previous owners Stan and Margaret McKale are retiring after 30 years and have sold the hotel to Sajjad Shah, whose background is in textiles. The hotel has 21 letting bedrooms, a billiards room, a 30-seat restaurant and further restaurant seating in the conservatory for 20 diners. The property also has a two-bedroom owner's flat.
Isle of Skye hotel changes hands
The Ullinish Lodge Hotel in Ullinish, Isle of Skye, has been sold for significantly more than its £275,000 asking price. Kay Fraser, Simon Oakden, Katrin King and Alan Marshall have bought the eight-bedroom property from Gena and Sam Connally, who are returning to the USA. Set in more than eight acres, the hotel includes a 32-seat restaurant and five-bedroom owner's accommodation. Colliers Robert Barry was the agent.
Battersea bistro sold
Glaister's, a bistro in Battersea, London, has been sold for a premium of more than £200,000 and a rent rate of £40,000 a year. Buyer Rising Star Leisure plans to turn the property into a bar-restaurant called Iniquity. The property has 90 seats (76 inside and 14 outside). Smith & Co acted for the vendor and Davis Coffer Lyons acted for the buyer.
