Ignite Group to open second Bumpkin restaurant

Restaurant and nightclub operator the Ignite Group has unveiled plans to open a second Bumpkin restaurant in London in early September.

The original Bumpkin, which opened in November 2006, is a 100-cover all-day British brasserie housed in a four-storey building in Notting Hill. It offers wholesome cooking with a focus on sustainable, locally-sourced ingredients.

The expansion, first revealed in Caterer last year, will see a second Bumpkin open on Brompton Road in South Kensington, on a site that is currently trading as the Belgian restaurant Abbaye.

It will consist of a 120-seat restaurant, bar and outdoor area on the ground floor, while upstairs will house a private dining room with a capacity of 40 and a private bar.

Matt Hermer, managing director of Ignite Group, which also includes the Eclipse bars, the nightclubs Volstead and Boujis and the Pan-Asian restaurant Cocoon, told Caterer he wants to expand Bumpkin to six branches in London in the next two years before considering opening outside of the capital.

"This one has taken much longer to than we wanted to get everything signed," he said. "But we've already earmarked a site for the next one which will be much quicker."
