Regular restaurant-goers would like to see calorie counts given on menus, according to a survey from online booking site Toptable.
A poll of the website's subscribers showed 81% wanted to know the calorific value of the meals they choose.
And 89% said they wanted healthy options highlighted.
Karen Hanton, managing director of Toptable, said: "Restaurants are the obvious next target for tackling the obesity issue.
"Food manufacturers are already under pressure to provide more information and, according to our consumer feedback, restaurants will also need to be more pro-active."
