James and Sara Evans have snapped up a leading three-star hotel in North Cornwall’s Poldark country, so-called after the novels of Winston Graham that are set in the area.
They have bought the Rose-in-Vale country house hotel in the hamlet of Mithian off an asking price of £1.5m for the freehold.
It is the highest-scoring three-star hotel on the coastal strip running from Newquay to St Ives.
The Grade II-listed Georgian manor house, which is near the village of St Agnes, is set in 10 acres of grounds that boast a trout stream, waterfowl ponds, ornamental beds and woodlands, a heated open-air swimming pool, and a wooden summerhouse
Along with 18 en-suite bedrooms, the hotel offers a lounge bar, a cocktail lounge, a drawing room, a library, and the 75-seat Valley restaurant/function room.
A games room, sauna, and stables are housed in outbuildings to the rear and a detached stone cottage provides accommodation for the owners.
