Images have been released of what is set to become London's most unusual hotel bedroom in the centre of Mayfair.

A habitable sculpture, known as Habitat and designed by Antony Gormley - best known for his Angel of the North in Gateshead - is to be the centrepiece of the 80-bedroom hotel.

The hotel will be operated on a 30-year lease by Chris Corbin and Jeremy King of Rex Restaurants Associates, which owns the Wolseley.

Situated on Balderton Street, between Oxford Street and Grosvenor Square, the property - housed within an art deco building previously used as a car rental depot, will incorporate a landmark restaurant, conference facilities and a spa.

Simon Williams, a partner in law firm Boodle Hatfield's commercial property department, who acted for the developers Grosvenor, said the hotel would be a striking addition to Mayfair. "The Anthony Gormley sculpture will be the West End's most unusual bedroom," he added.

The architects of the project are Reardon Smith.
