The NEC Group's chief executive Paul Thandi has been honoured as Birmingham's Inspiring Leader 2011 at the Birmingham Young Professional of the Year (BYPY) annual event.
He was awarded for his outstanding contribution to mentoring the region's young people at a ceremony held at the International Convention Centre (ICC), one of the group's venues.
Thandi thanked his team for their support: "Being an inspiring leader is not something I can do without those around me - having a great team behind me means everything.
"I have always been a firm believer in investing in our future - today's young professionals will be the drivers of tomorrow and we must continue to support them."
He was chosen by the Birmingham Future Board for his continuous contribution to the city's business community along with his vision for the NEC Group, which has now extended into the wider community.
He also uses his positions on the boards of Marketing Birmingham, CBI West Midlands Council, Birmingham & Solihull Employment and Skills as well as in his role as President of Solihull Chamber of Commerce to maintain this positive influence.
Bina Ganatra, BYPY chairman said: "Paul's work at the NEC Group has driven the organisation forward while influencing young professionals within our community, a change that can be measured through its employees, colleagues and in business."
