Lanesborough is tops for tea

Thursday 23 June 2005 00:00

The Lanesborough hotel has been named London's top place for tea in 2005.

For three months a team of mystery tasters from the Tea Council's Tea Guild made secret visits around the capital in a bid to find the city's best tea experience.

"You could not find a better place in which to enjoy afternoon tea," said William Gorman, executive director of the Tea Council. "The tea was always bright and hot and ranged from delicately fragrant to brisk and full of character."

Judges commented on the 28 tea's "faultless presentation", as well as the selection of accompanying cakes, pastries and sandwiches. Competitors are marked on the quality of the tea, variety on offer, standard of service and overall ambience.
