Accidental death verdict on Dempsey
The inquest on Tuesday (23 September) into the death of Gordon Ramsay protégé David Dempsey was told that the chef died accidentally after an unusual reaction to cocaine known as "excited delirium". Coroner Dr Paul Knapman told the court he was satisfied with the evidence that Dempsey had taken alcohol and cocaine on the day he died. Dempsey "acted completely out of character and it ultimately caused his death", Knapman said.
