London restaurant Gilgamesh has reportedly been acquired by fashion mogul Richard Caring after a dispute over unpaid rent.

The restaurant, at the heart of Camden Market, is understood to have been seized by landlord Stables Market, of which Caring is a stakeholder.

The move follows a financial dispute with the former Israeli owners, who allegedly failed to make rental payments of £700,000.

Gilgamesh is now under new management but executive chef Ian Pengelley remains at the helm of the restaurant's kitchen.

A spokeswoman for Gilgamesh told Camden New Journal the new management planned to make changes to move the restaurant forward, including lunchtime openings, masterclasses with Pengelley and a weekly opera night.

Gilgamesh, which opened last summer, is named after the ancient Babylonian king - two-thirds god and one-third human - and combines Eastern gastronomy and design. A traditional tearoom, fully retractable ceiling and lapis stone bar are just some of the restaurant's distinctive features.
