Swiss Diamond wokThe non-stick surface on the Swiss Diamond pans available from Gilberts is reinforced with real crystals of diamond, the hardest material known to man - and the one with the best thermal conductivity.

This prevents the coating from peeling, cracking or blistering. The range - which includes frying pans, roasting tins, woks, griddles and stockpots - are made from thick pressure-cast aluminium with flat bases to ensure an even distribution of heat. Prices start from £40 and all pieces carry a lifetime guarantee.

Gilberts also distributes Gustav Emil Ern knives, forged using traditional methods in Solingen to produce knives with excellent weight, balance, sharpness and flexibility. They are made from one piece of stainless steel (a top-quality high-carbon stainless steel with added molybdenum and vanadium) and undergo several rounds of super-heating and super-cooling to give lasting strength.

They are equally suitable for preparing hard root vegetables and for more precise tasks such as fine carving, filleting and slicing. Riveted or moulded handles (often in a choice of French or German patterns) are fused to the blades for strength and are made from dishwasher-safe POM or Profilon. Edge options include straight, corrugated, serrated and scalloped. Prices start from £4.
