Burger chain Byron to open restaurant in former petrol station

Burger chain Byron is to open a new restaurant in a former 1920s petrol station in London's West End.

The group has taken over a site on the Bedford Estate in Bloomsbury, which includes reconstruction of the former Bloomsbury Petrol Station and forecourt, which dates back to 1926 and has been converted to a new restaurant.

ASK on behalf of its Byron subsidiary has taken on a 25-year lease at a rent of close to £83,000 per year.

The Garnett & Partners designed project also features a new BREEAM Excellent office building, while to the rear the Grade II listed former private dining room of the Academy Hotel has been restored as a suite of offices.

Restaurant Property director Jason Grant, who advised Byron, said: "As well as great food Byron have imbued its brand with interesting locations and architecture for many of its restaurants."

It was reported earlier this month that owner Gondola Holdings is in talks to sell Byron for around £100m.

Private equity house Cinven, which controls the group, is speaking to investment banks including Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Barclays.
