The Drury Tea & Coffee Company, has announced the launch of this season's First Flush Darjeeling teas.
Often called the Champagne of teas, Darjeeling teas are grown in the state of West Bengal, India.
First Flush Darjeeling teas are harvested in late March and early April. The best teas are grown on estates between 2,500ft and 7,500ft up on the lower ranges of the Himalayas.
Plucking lasts about four weeks. First Flush picking produces a tea that is light in colour, with slightly astringent, yet distinctly floral characteristics. It can also produce a musky spiciness often referred to by connoisseurs as "muscatel" and leaves a sweet cooling aftertaste in the mouth.
First Flush teas command a high price at auction for their quality and rarity value. This year Drury has purchased teas from the following estates: Thurbo, Sungma, Gopaldhara, Risheehat, Jungpana and Castleton.
Drury's First Flush Darjeeling teas are available in pack sizes ranging from 50g to 250g. Prices start with the Jungpana single estate tea at £3.95 per 50g pack.
