USP Xcelsius is a mini water boiler fitted in the group head of an espresso machine that allows baristas to micro-manage the brew temperature to tolerances within 0.1°C to create different taste profiles from the same coffee. A patented feature allows water temperature to be altered in mid-cycle by up to 5°C.
Details Offered initially as an option on the Rancilio Classe 9 espresso machine, the device allows group heads to be independently programmed to deliver a stable temperature throughout the cycle, or to rise or fall during the brewing cycle.
