Chartwells wins £4.5m school meals deal at Derby City Council

Compass Group's education division Chartwells has won a three-year deal with Derby City Council worth £4.5m.

The contract will see the caterer deliver catering services to 5,700 pupils across 32 primary and special schools in the city.

John Carlin, business director for Chartwells, said: "We have an expert team of chefs and nutritionists who are dedicated to developing a range of tasty nutritious meals which are tempting to school pupils of all ages and which we hope will get top marks from Derby City school children."

Councillor Evonne Williams, Cabinet member for children and young people, added: "The new contract for providing meals in Schools is seeing new menus created and daily 'cooked from scratch' meals. Around 30 schools and four children's centres are benefitting and our staff have been retained.

"We are also able to start work on kitchen improvements working with schools and Chartwells, I am pleased with progress and the benefit this has for Derby's pupils"

Chartwells works with 13 local authorities across the UK, catering for thousands of students and serving 57 million quality meals a year to pupils throughout the country.
