Hotel revpar falls by 13.5% in London

Revenue per available room (revpar) slumped by 13.5% in London hotels and by 20.3% in the regions in the week ending 7 February 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

London revpar fell to £79.24, down from £91.65 in the equivalent week of 2008.

Occupancy dropped by 6.5 percentage points to 68.8% while average daily rate declined by 5.4% to £115.17, down from £121.73 in the corresponding week of 2008.

In the same week, revpar in the provinces fell to £39.82 (down from £49.94) thanks to a 10 percentage point fall in occupancy and a 6.3% decline in room rate.

Revpar declined less steeply in Edinburgh hotels, falling by 19.4% to £43.50.

Revpar for the 28 days to 7 February dropped by 12.9% in London and by 14.9% in the regions, while Edinburgh hotels reported a 16.5% decline.
