
Matfen Hall hotel near Newcastle has been named Large Hotel of the Year in the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2006.
It becomes the first property in the award’s 14 year history to have won the Small Hotel and Large hotel accolades.
The Small Hotel of the Year Award went to the Green Bough hotel in Chester for its “attention to detail and outstanding service”.
And the Bed and Breakfast of the Year was awarded to Michelin-starred St Ervan Manor in Cornwall, where Nathan Outlaw is head chef.
VisitBritain chief executive and awards judge Tom Wright said of St Ervan “it redefines the nature of the B&B”.
Sam Hill, assistant reception manager at the Holiday Inn hotel, Leicester, won The Outstanding Customer Service Award.
Manchester City Football Club’s hospitality and conference & events team won a silver award in the Business Tourism category.
