BHA calls for Food Policy Forum members

The British Hospitality Association (BHA) is calling on representatives from across the catering industry to form a Food Policy Forum.

Hotel groups Whitbread and Hilton; food service operators, Compass, Sodexho and Aramark; and suppliers Brakes and 3663, are among the companies that have already been invited to join.

Acting forum chairman and BHA chief executive, Bob Cotton, said: “Just as the last few years have been dominated by matters relating to employment, the next few years will be dominated by food issues.”

Cotton said food issues had now taken on a European dimension, with concerns relating to labelling, the origin of meat and the lively debate over the amount of salt, sugar and fat in people’s diets.

The BHA hopes the forum’s broad membership will help it present an informed and consistent message to government on major food policy areas.

At present it would meet at least twice a year, but the frequently could be increased if required said Cotton.
