The Quinn Group, owner of Golf’s Ryder Cup venue the Belfry hotel in Warwickshire, has revealed details of its plans to redevelop the site as an exclusive world-class golf resort.
Plans to turn the property into a 500-room five-star hotel will be submitted at the end of next month after a public consultation, and comprise a project worth around £200m.
If approved, the redevelopment project will take an estimated five years to complete, during which time the existing property will remain fully functional.
The new property will include a new leisure complex including swimming pool, spa and treatment facilities, while golf facilities will include a new PGA national headquarters, a training academy and a new clubhouse. There will be an underground parking lot with space for up to 900 cars.
The new hotel will also have an increased focus on being environmental friendly and plans include the reduction of its carbon emissions as well as the use of rain water and the re-use of hotel water.
General manager Nigel Gray said: “These plans to create the only five-star hotel in the Midlands offer an opportunity to develop a new hotel that provides state-of-the-art facilities while retaining the charm our customers associate with the ivy-clad façade of the hotel.”
Ireland-based Quinn Group acquired the Belfry from De Vere in March 2005 in a £186m deal.
