London restaurateurs and Catey winners Chris and Jeff Galvin have confirmed that they are close to signing on a new restaurant site in the City of London.

Speaking exclusively to Caterer, Chris said: "We have concluded final arrangements with the landlords, subject to a few details. The site's in the Spitalfields area but it's a listed building and there are lots of issues to deal with before we sign the contract."

Assuming all goes well with the deal, the Galvins expect to open the restaurant in 2009, although the name and style of the restaurant has not yet been decided.

The new site will bring the number of businesses in their restaurant collection to three - the other two restaurants being Galvin Bistrot de Luxe and Galvin at Windows, both in the West End of London.

Galvin Bistrot de Luxe won the Catey Newcomer of the Year in 2006.

Last November, Caterer revealed that the Galvins had called off plans to open a new brasserie-style restaurant at London's Waldorf Hilton hotel owing to planning issues relating to the site's historic building status.
