Budget hotel chain Travelodge has welcomed the Government’s announcement of £112m being made available for hospitality training.

Under the “compact”, agreed between the Government and Sector Skills Council People 1st, hospitality employers will have easier access to the Train to Gain scheme, which provides funding for training.

Hospitality was one of the first industries to agree a compact, along with construction, a development welcomed by Travelodge.

Chrissie Herbert, director of HR at Travelodge, said: “As we approach the 2012 Olympics we are in a skills race to ensure we have the number of people needed to match the demand.

“At Travelodge we are committed to up-skilling our workforce and it is good to see the Government committing £112m to our sector.”

Travelodge was the first hospitality company to sign up to the Local Employer Partnership with JobCentre Plus.

To date the hotel company has begun recruiting from the ranks of the long-term unemployed for new hotels in London’s Southwark and Chester.
