Graeme Nesbitt to leave the Mere as general manager

Graeme Nesbitt is to step down as general manager of the Mere Golf Resort & Spa in Cheshire, just a few months after the resort was heralded as one of the most prominent hotel openings in the North-west of England for several years.

Developed at a cost of £15m, the new-look resort in Knutsford was launched in March following the addition of an 81-bedroom hotel alongside a refurbished conference and event space for up to 550 and new spa. It incorporates an 18-hole golf course which is of a qualifying standard for the Open Championship.

At the time of the opening, Nesbitt, who was previously general manager of De Vere Cameron House at Loch Lomond, said that the Mere was an exciting new opening for the region because it provided an independent and diverse offering.

The Mere is privately owned by Mark Boler, whose father, Stephen, bought the property in 1984 when it was an exclusive golf and country club.

A spokesperson for the property said: "The Mere's management team has been focusing on taking the appropriate restructuring and resourcing steps following its launch earlier this year. Mr Nesbitt will maintain a position as a non-executive director on the Mere's board and will therefore be involved in the future strategic development of the resort."

No decision has yet been taken on Nesbitt's replacement.
