The Boxwood Café at the Berkeley

Gordon Ramsay's Boxwood Café and other food and beverage operations at London's Berkeley hotel are set to close as part of an extensive overhaul of the property, Caterer has learnt.

The hotel's owner, the Maybourne Group, is believed to be awaiting planning permission for the changes, which will include closing the Boxwood Café, the Caramel Room and Blue Bar.

It is thought that Ramsay's contract for the Boxwood Café will not resume after the renovations, marking the end of his four-year tenure at the 120-seat café.

A spokesman for the Berkeley said parts of the hotel would close at the end of the year, but the refurbishment would be completed in stages. "Nothing has been formally announced or confirmed yet," he added. "There has been no confirmation about contracts for restaurants."

The two-Michelin-starred Pétrus, which is also located within the Berkeley, is not thought to be included in the plans.

The Berkeley's sister hotel, the Connaught, is currently closed to undergo a £60m refurbishment and extension programme. It is set to reopen in December.
