Suffolk bar-restaurant changes hands

A couple from West London have snapped up Castle’s bar and restaurant in the historic Suffolk market town of Bungay in the River Waveney valley.

The 16th-century, three-storey building is close to Bungay Castle (it was once called the Castle hotel) and it is believed to be the town’s oldest coaching inn.

It provides four en-suite letting bedrooms, a bar, a 36-seat restaurant, a one-bedroom owners’ flat, and a patio garden.

The business attracts both local trade and visitors to the nearby Norfolk Broads and Suffolk Heritage Coast.

Accommodation accounts for half the business’s trade, with the restaurant and bar contributing 35% and 15% respectively.

The Ipswich office of Christie + Co sold the freehold to Tanya Martin and Mark Hougham off a guide price of £350,000 on behalf of Ian Hillyard.
