Birmingham hospitality operators involved in Government employment law pilot

Tuesday 26 September 2006 13:01

Hospitality businesses in Birmingham will be at the centre of a new Government-backed pilot scheme designed to protect vulnerable workers and provide advice on all aspects of employment law.

The project will bring together a number of different bodies to tackle the problems faced by vulnerable and low-paid workers, as well as examining the support provided to employers.

Employment Relations Minister, Jim Fitzpatrick said the pilots would also help the Government look at ways of simplifying employment law and reducing red tape.

“These pilots will ensure that the most vulnerable workers have better access to support and advice about their employment rights and responsibilities. They will bring together unions, advice groups and businesses to raise awareness of employment rights, and help workers develop their skills.

“Business will also benefit as the projects will look at the help given to employers to raise their awareness of employment law obligations,” he added.

The Birmingham hospitality pilot will run concurrently with a scheme covering workers in the building and service sectors in London.
