BCF calls for entries for Young Chef of the Year 2011

The organisers of the British Culinary Federation (BCF) Young Chef of the Year 2011 have announced details for this year's competition.

The event, which will take place at University College Birmingham on 14 November, is structured in two parts - a written entry and a two-hour cook-off.

Competitors will be asked to produce a three-course meal comprising a starter of the competitor's choosing, using under-utilised fish; a main course featuring British pork; and a dessert. A commis from University College Birmingham will be provided, as well as china from Villeroy & Boch. Chosen dishes, listed ingredients and a brief method must be included with each entry.

The winner will receive the David Bache Trophy, a cheque for £200 and a study tour to Luxembourg courtesy of Villeroy & Boch. Second place and third place will receive £150 and £100 respectively.

The competition is open to any young chef aged 23 or under on 1 January 2012. For non-members, the entry fee is £20, which includes one year's membership of the BCF. The closing date for entries is 8 October.
