Kenny Atkinson, director of food at Rockliffe Hall in County Durham, is set to launch a second restaurant at the five-star resort where he also runs his eponymous restaurant at the Orangery.

The Brasserie by Atkinson, which will launch next week, will replace the 61-bedroom hotel's existing Waterhouse Bistro adjacent to its spa.

The space has undergone a complete refurbishment and will reopen with a modern yet relaxed feel and a simple British menu.

The food will showcase Atkinson's fierce loyalty to seasonal, local produce, offering classic British dishes such as fish and chips and steaks. Other dishes will include Atkinson's Great British Menu dish of Craster fish pie as well as slow-roasted pork loin with pease pudding.

Commenting on the Brasserie launch, Atkinson said: "The Brasserie is an exciting opportunity to continue what I have started at the Orangery - to showcase the best the North-east has to offer with simple, fresh cooking."

A two-time Great British Menu finalist, Atkinson joined Rockliffe Hall as executive chef in 2009 after leaving Seaham Hall where he had held a Michelin star. He previously won a star at St Martin in the Scilly Isles.
