Hotel bathrobes, towels and toiletries are there for the taking, according to most Brits.
Around £5m worth of bathrobes have gone missing from hotel rooms over the past five years, with 336,000 beds broken by guests, according to a survey by insurer More Than Business.
Items considered “fair game” include towels, toiletries, bathrobes and stationery, with 80% of survey respondents believing it is OK to take a memento of your stay.
However, the majority of guests drew the moral line at nicking fixtures and fittings such as lights and electrical appliances, which were all considered off limits.
Despite this, three million visitors admitted to damaging beds, irons, and televisions during their stay.
And a sixth of all visitors admitted they were less careful with hotel furniture and appliances than they would be in a private home.
The survey questioned more than 2,200 Brits on their hotel habits and was conducted by YouGov between 11-14 November 2005.
Over the past five years:
- 336,000 beds have been broken
- 672,000 electrical appliances have been broken or damaged
- 336,000 televisions have gone on the blink
- 537,000 hotel doors have been damaged
