London restaurateur David Moore has condemned HM Revenue and Custom’s (HMRC) hardline attack on restaurant troncs which it now admits was based on a misreading of the law.
Moore – who owns the two-Michelin-starred Pied a Terre - believed the Revenue should do more to help the industry by providing clear and unambiguous guidelines.
Moore argued that the Revenue should visit restaurants on a friendly “let’s get it right basis” to prevent problems rather than just storming in to find them.
