The Atlantic Hotel in Jersey has been named Pride of Britain’s hotel of the year 2005.
The consortium of 40 hotels asked AA and RAC inspectors to nominate their top three hotels for hospitality and service.
The marketing group then drew up a shortlist. James Brown, chief executive of the Academy of Food and Wine Service, inspect the finalists undercover.
“James decided the Atlantic stood head and shoulders above the rest,” said Peter Hancock, chief executive of Pride of Britain. “The way the staff served each type of client was so polished.”
Hotel manager Jason Adams said: “Most of my staff have been here for many years. Our restaurant manager remembers everyone who walks in.”
The 50-bed hotel has been owned by the same family since 1970 and overlooks St Ouen’s Bay.
The hotel is currently being refurbished and recently reopened its restaurant in February after a £250,000 revamp.
