Malvern hotel and spa to double in size

The new owners of the Malvern hotel, spa and health club in Malvern, Worcestershire plan to double the size of the property.

Huw Watson and Helen Rogers bought the 32-bedroom hotel last month for an undisclosed sum from chartered accountants Baker Tilly, who had been overseeing the property since it went into administration. The business, which opened in 2008 following a £7.5m development, was originally owned by property developer John Williams.

Now Watson and Rogers, who have been running the hotel since September 2010, intend to add 30 bedrooms, conference rooms and a second swimming pool over the next three years.

They have already recruited new staff and introduced new branding and marketing initiatives, alongside new spa treatments.

Watson said: "It is a very exciting time for all of us here at the Malvern and we are intent on making this a leading spa hotel, which will offer excellent benefits to our members and attract visitors to our award-winning spa and restaurant from far and wide. We see the Malvern as being a major attraction in the area."

Watson and Rogers have been involved in the leisure and hospitality industry for over 20 years, developing several businesses including Viva Health & Leisure, which they sold in 1999 to Hilton Hotels.
