Staff urged to provide ‘peep show’ at New York hotel

An X-rated window at New York's Standard hotel

Staff and managers of a hotel in New York City’s Meatpacking District are being encouraged to strip off and pose provocatively in the building’s floor to ceiling windows in order to draw attention to the hotel.

After the Standard hotel opened late last year, naked and semi-dressed staff members were encouraged to pose in front of the windows, in order to create a buzz with the unexpected peep show.

A hotel porter told the New York Post: “We don't discourage it. In actual fact, we encourage it. One of the managers even got naked in a room, and filmed it -- they were considering a live feed for the Web site.”

An advertisement in the hotel also read “We'll put up with your banging if you'll put up with ours” referring to the ongoing construction at the hotel, and featuring a woman clad in nothing but a tool belt. The hotel also has asked guests to share their "intimate and explicit photos with us -- those floor to ceiling windows aren't just for the views."

But the X-rated windows have angered some families, neighbours and visitors to the area and have provoked the city council to call for the hotel to tone down its escapades.

The hotel's management responded by saying it would make “a concerted effort to remind guests of the transparency of the guest room windows”.

Using foraged ingredients is nothing new but the trend has become more mainstream over the past two years. However, the wider use of foraged food in restaurants also carries a certain amount of danger.
