Hotel bookings in South Wales treble thanks to Ryder Cup

Friday 27 August 2010 15:59

Hotel bookings in South Wales have trebled as golf fans rush to book accommodation ahead of this year's Ryder Cup.

According to market intelligence firm Rubicon the tournament - taking place at Celtic Manor (pictured) between 1 and 3 October - has prompted room rates to run at 162% ahead of last year. As a result, average room prices have risen to just over £141 per night.

"The good news for spectators is that South Wales has benefited from the addition of considerable hotel capacity in recent years, so there are still rooms available if they want to come along," said Rubicon managing director Europe, Andy Storey. "However, as our data shows, the demand is there and we can only expect to see prices increase over the next four weeks."

As expected, hotels in the region are busiest on Saturday night, with the majority of visitors staying in preparation for the final day's play on Sunday.
