The Peach Pub Company

Tuesday 27 September 2005 10:09

Background
The Peach Pub Company is a gastro-pub company set up in 2002 by Lee Cash and Hamish Stoddart. In our brief history, we have refurbished and re-launched 6 pubs mainly in market towns in Central England. To date, each pub has traded increased trade by over £20k per week. We have received positive press reviews and various nominations and awards including most prestigiously the Rose and Crown voted UK pub of the year 2004 in the Morning Advertiser awards (the Fleece voted 14th). This is a vote by 400 industry experts. Also we won Entrepreneurial Business of the Year 2005 in the Publican awards. We will continue to grow at a steady pace and so a great deal of effort goes into sustaining our success to date in finding, selecting and retaining a great team. One of our key goals is to be good enough to have a waiting list of people want to work with us. Vision, values and the way we do it We believe in having shared values and goals and in 2005 developed with 20 of the team, vision and values which drive our team effort. Our vision is “our house is your place” expressing our drive for individual pubs which work for individuals, local communities and great managers and chefs and in fact every employee. Pub managers and chefs share in 25% of the profit of each pub. We go as far as sharing ownership with the top operators of a “pod” of pubs.

Values – we really mean them
The Peach Pub Company always works together, sharing and supporting each other
We respect and trust each other
We work with enthusiasm to make our house your place
We always strive to be PEACHY

People Systems
The people systems which deliver this include:

  • Close relationships with our key recruitment agents (they are part of the team)
  • Spending as much time as necessary for key employees to explore our culture and product prior to joining
  • Inductions (including ½ hour for every employee by a Director) – day 1, week 1, month 1
  • Knowledge tests – at both waiter and manager level
  • On the job training
  • Peach Adventure days for product knowledge in bar and food
  • Quarterly Peach Leaders days – peer group facilitated training for the managers
  • Peach Pounds for extra shifts which encouraging eating our food
  • Focus on the values and living them every day
  • Fantastic annual Peach festival = staff party
  • This year taking all 40 managers to Spain for celebration and training
  • A maximum of 3 pubs per Owner/Manager to ensure the intensity of service and product
  • Short term and long term bonuses raising remuneration to top quartile earnings
  • Converting shift managers into business managers into Joint Venture Partners

Peachy employers
There is nothing totally revolutionary about any one of these. The reality is Peach is a great employer because we really believe in our vision and values and deliver the above system effectively.

The proof is in the eating…………..we keep our team, our pubs continue to trade better and better – when people leave us, we expect them to want to come back….and they do!

This is a great team, a great company to work for.
