Peter Lederer takes Lifetime Achievement award at the AA Hospitality Awards 2011
Hotelier Peter Lederer CBE has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement accolade at this year's AA Hospitality Awards 2011.
Lederer, who has worked at Gleneagles in Auchterarder since 1984, was credited with developing the property into a world-class resort hotel. "With a career spanning over 40 years, Peter has and continues to make a significant contribution to the industry through his various roles and commitments," said an AA spokesperson.
He joined Gleneagles as general manager, but within three years was appointed managing director. He became chairman in 2007. Most recently, Lederer oversaw an £18m refurbishment programme that included the launch of an £8m destination spa, a Mediterranean-style restaurant - Deseo, a refurbished top floor "suite product" and a "zone" created for small children and teenagers. It was named Hotel of the Year at the AA Hospitality Awards for 2009-10.
He told Caterer and Hotelkeeper: "It's always nice to receive recognition like this. And not just for myself but for my team as well. It's easy to say but it really is true that the secret is to surround yourself with good people."
The awards, presented at the London Hilton on Park Lane, saw 20 establishments and individuals receiving recognition for outstanding excellence in their field, including AA's Chefs' Chef Award for brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin. They were described as being "both committed, hard working, totally hands on, passionate about developing young people and above all very modest and humble".
The event also saw the launch of the 2012 AA guides to UK hotels, restaurants, pubs and B&B which contain details of all the winning establishments.
Guests were treated to a gastronomic meal created by five AA Rosette-awarded chef Pierre Gagnaire in conjunction with the Hilton Park Lane kitchen team and were entertained by Britain's Got Talent stars Out of the Blue.
