Survey seeks to measure fraud in the hotel industry

The hotel industry's resilience to fraud is to be tested in a new survey conducted by accountants and business advisers PKF.

To be undertaken jointly with the Centre for Counter Fraud Studies (CCFS) at the University of Portsmouth, the survey intends to understand how the industry safeguards itself against the risk of fraud, as well as highlight the best- and worst-performing areas for hotels and the different structures in place to counter fraud.

Stuart Collins, a hotel sector specialist and Partner at PKF, said that fraud could be hugely damaging to any organisation, but especially so in hotels where jobs are put at risk and consumer choice is threatened. "By examining how well the sector protects itself against fraud, we are seeking to highlight the areas where hotel operators can implement measures to mitigate the risks posed and consequently reduce the cost of fraud."

Hoteliers are being urged to participate in the survey by visiting: www.pkf.co.uk/hotelssurvey. The deadline for completing the survey is Friday 28 October. All organisations who participate will receive a copy of the final report, which will be published by the end of the year.
