Rex Restaurant Associates reveals details of Colbert opening on Sloane Square

Rex Restaurant Associates, the group led by Chris Corbin and Jeremy King (pictured), has released details of its latest opening, Colbert on Sloane Square.

Inspired by the great French pavement cafés, Colbert will open on the former site of the Oriel brasserie in mid-October, serving an all-day menu from breakfast through to dinner seven days a week.

The kitchen will be overseen by executive chef Lawrence Keogh, who last year joined the group from Roast, as well as head chef Andrew Woodford and head pastry chef Keiran McAuley.

The menu will include a large section of eggs and croques, next to café stalwarts such as salade de magret fumé, steak Diane, moules marinières, and cassoulet de canard, as well as a large range of pastries, tartes and biscuits.

The wine list will be exclusively French, with a good selection available by the glass.

Offering seating for up to 118 diners, Colbert will have the look and feel of a Parisian café. With interiors by David Collins Studio, it will feature bespoke cornices, custom floors, art nouveau decorative arches, Victorian tiling, moulded glass chandeliers and wall lights, and a collection of art, original French posters, vintage photographs and eccentric memorabilia.

Colbert is the latest in a string of openings for Wolseley owner Rex Restaurants, which is currently in the middle of a major expansion programme that has included the Delaunay, on the corner of Drury Lane and the Aldwych, and Brasserie Zédel, on the former site of the Atlantic Bar and Grill on Sherwood Street.

And in 2014, Corbin and King will take their first steps into hotelkeeping with the opening of a luxury property overlooking Brown Hart Gardens in Mayfair. Originally built as a garage in 1926, the Beaumont hotel will have 73 bedrooms, a restaurant, lobby bar and small spa. Artist Antony Gormley is to create a piece of public art in the form of an inhabitable sculpture to be used as a guest room.
