- With a long, thin, bladed knife, cut around the top of the pumpkin stem to make a hole big enough to scoop out the insides. Angle knife towards the centre of the pumpkin so the edge of the lid is slanted. Retain the lid.
- With a large spoon, scoop out the middle of the pumpkin (seeds and stringy membrane).
- Choose side best for carving, ie, the flattest.
- Using a crayon, draw on a face and shade in the shapes.
- Cut and push out the shapes.
- Use a spoon to make a dent in the bottom of the pumpkin for your tea light. Use flattest area.
- Take your lid and cut away any seeds and membrane. Then cut out several small holes so the candle can receive oxygen and won't burn the top of the lid.
- Put a tea light into a jar and place inside pumpkin.
