Scottish universities join forces to keep hospitality and tourism graduates

An Edinburgh University has joined forces with a Glasgow counterpart in an effort to keep hospitality and tourism graduates in Scotland.

Napier and Strathclyde universities want to encourage students on their tourism and hospitality courses to work in Scotland's two major cities after graduation, instead of taking their skills out of the country.

Workshops, one in each city, are to be held for more than 130 students to hear from tourism chiefs about careers in the sector.

Around 80% of postgraduates studying tourism and hospitality courses at the two universities are from overseas - and more than half are eligible for the Scottish Executive's Fresh Talent initiative, enabling them to stay and work in Scotland after graduation.

Laura Gordon, Glasgow-Edinburgh Collaboration director, told the Scotsman: "We want to ensure that the Glasgow-Edinburgh tourism industry is a highly desirable choice for international talent."
