Spain gains a seventh three-Michelin-star restaurant
There are now seven three-Michelin starred restaurants in Spain and Portugal, after the latest edition of the guide handed the top accolade to El Celler de Can Roca in Girona.
El Celler joins other high-profile restaurants including Ferran Adria's iconic El Bulli in being awarded three stars.
Michelin has also elevated four restaurants to two-star status, taking the total of two-starred establishments to 12, while a further 19 gain their first stars, taking the total to 130.
The new two-star establishments are Casa Marcial, Lasarte (Hotel Condes de Barcelona), La Terraza del Casino and Les Cols.
Michelin awarded 23 new restaurants with the Bib Gourmand label, taking the total number recognised for offering high quality meals at a reasonable price (€35 or less) to 235.
Sixty hotels were awarded the Bib Hotel label, denoting affordable, quality lodging where most double rooms are available for €65 or less in major cities and €55 or less in other locations.
Michelin Spain & Portugal is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
