A security guard was subjected to a brutal attack when he disturbed a robbery at Scotland’s Old Course Hotel in St Andrew’s on Monday (26 February).
The guard was hit on the head when he discovered the intruder at 6am and had to be rushed to the local hospital suffering suspected concussion. He has since been discharged.
The hotel admitted the thief got away with “a substantial sum” and Allistair McKeen, chief inspector of Fife constabulary has called for witnesses to come forward.
He said: “We urge anyone who witnessed anything unusual around the hotel at this time of the morning to contact us as soon as possible.”
The five-star hotel, popular with celebrity golf fans including Michael Douglas and Kevin Costner, was recently voted the best Scottish Hotel by HotelReviewScotland.com.
