Zhu Jiang Pearl River beerZhu Jiang Pearl River - the best-selling beer brand in Southern China - is the latest speciality beer brewed in the country of origin to join Pierhead Purchasing's 150-plus line-up.

The name - pronounced Joo-Jung - refers to the Pearl River, which is the source of the fresh spring water used to brew the beer.

It's combined with Czech hops, Chinese rice and Canadian barley to yield a premium 5.3% abv lager with a pale straw colour and a crisp, clean taste.

The beer is brewed in the city of Guangzhou in Guangdong (formerly Canton) at the world's largest brewery, which produces 48,000 bottles of Zhu Jiang an hour.

The brewery recently became a sponsor of the Chinese national basketball team, which will give it worldwide exposure during this summer's Beijing Olympics.

The beer is sold in cases of 24 x 300ml.
