Jamie Oliver is to launch his second Jamie’s Italian restaurant in central London, with a flagship site set to open in Covent Garden next year.

The celebrity chef, whose first Jamie’s Italian restaurant in the capital will open in Canary Wharf this August, has taken on a lease on a site located at St Martin’s Courtyard.

His spokesman confirmed to Caterersearch that the restaurant would open in the summer next year.

Jamie Oliver launched the first Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Oxford last spring and garnered wide critical acclaim for its authentic Italian menu.

He currently has four operating outlets in Oxford, Bath, Kingston upon Thames in greater London and Brighton. Cardiff will open in November and Cambridge is set for next year.

Jamie’s Italian serves classic Italian food at “affordable prices” inspired by the dishes in Jamie Oliver’s cookery books.

The menu offers a range of pasta dishes freshly prepared on site as well as a selection of fresh breads, antipasti, salads, grills and Italian desserts.

“It’s all about bringing my food to the public and offering them the best value for money they can get,” Oliver said.

Oliver recently launched a new business venture in the form of a chain of food stores where customers can prepare their own dishes under the guidance of professional chefs.

The first Recipease outlet opened in Battersea, south London, in February, with a second to launch in Brighton.

Oliver plans to roll out the concept in town and city locations across the UK over the next two years.

Oliver is expected to head the chef Sunday Times Rich List when it is released today.
